Sinwell Succeeds at Mayo Open
On a course shortened by 100 meters as a results of heavy rainful that
ended less than 36 hours prior to race time, Jason Sinwell succeeded in
winning the 5 kilometer Open cross country race at Eastwood Golf Course
on September 16th, with a time of 16:12. He finished 2nd in his
only previous appearance in 2002. Jesse Nelson was the only other
runner under 17 minutes, being timed in 16:45. Jay Allen was 3rd
in 17:06, the 6th year in a row he has finished in the top 4. Jim
Hannon was the first master’s finisher in 17:14, for the 4th time in
the last 5 years.
Deb Dilling was the first female and master’s finisher for the second
time, in 21:04, having also achieved that double in 2001. Tamara
Berg-Beniak was close behind in 21:08, with Marisa Vaughn 3rd in
21:56. Krissy Resman, age 9, was the youngest finisher.
Also of note, there were 14 female finishers, tying the highest total
since the event began, set in 2002, and setting a new record for
highest percentage.
Last minute volunteer recruit, Al Gilman, was key to the successful
recording of results for those who had registered. Other
volunteers were Paul Anderson, Jerry Goodrich, Gary Larson, John Modry,
Gail DeBoer, Nathaniel DeBoer, and Rebecca DeBoer. Since the director
decided not to plant cucumbers this year, some rather large zucchini
were awarded to interested individuals.
