2012 Spring Marathon and Half Marathon Training Class
12/2/2011

Start Stretching! Soon the 39th Marathon and Half Marathon Training Class sponsored by the Rochester Track Club will begin. Those of you interested in training for half or full marathons or a 10K event, this is for you. Beginning Thursday, February 16th, 2011, through May 15th, the Rochester Track Club will sponsor the Spring Marathon Training Clinic. All interested are invited to an introductory meeting on February 16th at 7:00 p.m. at the Rochester Athletic Club.

Beginning Thursday, February 16
th, from 7:00 PM - 8:00+ PM, and continuing every Tuesday through the end of May, the Rochester Track Club will sponsor the Spring Marathon Training Clinic. Although this class is aimed at first time marathoners/half marathoners and runners who haven't run a half or full marathon for several years or who didn't have the type of experience they had hoped for in a previous half/full marathon, we welcome anyone who might be interested in training for a spring event: Med City (Rochester), Mad City (Madison, WI), Green Bay Marathon, Grandma’s, Voyageur (WI), Fargo, Brookings (ND), LaCrosse (WI), Eau Claire (WI), Minneapolis Marathon, Stillwater (MN) Marathon, etc. or for a half marathon, many of which are part of a marathon event as well.

The emphasis will be on first time half/full marathoners, or those who have not run an event for sometime, and whose primary objective is to finish their event of choice, training up to 32-45 (marathoner) or 20-33 (half marathoner) miles per week. Every session a speaker will address such topics as nutrition, fluid replacement, preventing and coping with injuries, running shoes and clothing, plotting race strategies, massage and stretching, mental preparation, a panel on "my first marathon", tapering and preparing for race day, and marathon memories.

Long runs will be programmed into the course with other short to mid-distance runs. The long runs will be offered as a group activity on Saturday mornings from the Athletic Club.

The fee for the course will be $50.00. This will include a clothing item, plaque, guest speakers, and copies of handouts given to the participants during the three-month course. Participants DO NOT have to have membership in the Rochester Athletic Club or the Rochester Track Club.

The class coordinator for the Spring Marathon Training Clinic will be Lin Gentling. To enroll in the course or if you have any questions, please contact Lin at email: lsgentling@charter.net, or simply come to the introductory meeting on Thursday, February 16th, at 7:00 PM at the Rochester Athletic Club.
